Prometheus not only is a much hyped up movie with Ridley
Scotts return to the Sci-Fi genre but apparently there is enough hype to
justify the ability to pre order before the movie even releases in theatres.
This is truly an odd trend happening with new releases
nowadays with Prometheus not being the only offender but also movies like MIB 3
and The Avengers. While all these movies have a lot of hype behind them, they
are all either going into or still in theatres. This just shows the huge push
to keep the media fresh in peoples mind with the risk of people possibly
forgetting about a movie through the clutter of summer blockbusters coming out
while waiting for the movie to release on DvD or Blu-Ray for home viewing.
While the time from movie leaving theatres to arriving in your home has become
shorter and shorter as the years go on I think this just goes to show that
production companies are scared that the peoples attention spans have gotten so
short that they need to lock you into a purchase maybe less than a few hours
after you got out of the theatre.
While this does sound like a bunch of Amazon execs or
Producers just trying to grab any extra money they can, maybe it is worth doing
maybe not with these big budget titles that you are sure to remember with their
huge box office and hype but maybe the smaller titles that really do get lost
in the huge amount of movies that may come out any given summer. This just goes
to show our attention spans can only hold in so much information at one time and
as a company you will have to battle to keep in that small amount of audience
attention span there is to sell your movies.
