Star Trek 2 filmed in IMAX

The first Star Trek reboot movie was a huge success, so what will Abrams do with the money from the first one to make the second that much better? The answer is film it in the holy grail of film buff formats, which isIMAX.

Abrams decided to skip filming in 3D and rather shoot key scenes in IMAX. This is a huge deal to most filmgoers since it means a much better picture quality and a bigger screen to show in. With the great writing and acting in the first one this could easily put Star Trek into contention with all the other great movies coming out.

For those not in the know IMAX movies typically are just movies shot in regular 35mm or digital that is than shown on larger resolution screens that to most people just make everything look a bit bigger. But when you actually shoot in IMAX, which is basically taking a frame of 35 and near doubling it in size. This causes the same size image to have that much more quality because each little image is able to hold a lot more information and it fits much better on a bigger screen. So since actual IMAX cameras were used in the production if you go to the fancy IMAX theatres you will actually be getting your moneys worth if you go see something like Star Trek 2.

It is always good news to hear a movie is being shot in this format since it seems rarer and rarer these days with companies focused solely on 3D. I guess that makes it a little more special when it does happen when movies like the Dark Knight Rises and Star Trek are shot in this amazing format. But the question still lingers is it better for high quality images like you haven’t seen before or the cool 3D effects. I guess that’s just up to the audience.

Prometheus Pre Order

Prometheus not only is a much hyped up movie with Ridley Scotts return to the Sci-Fi genre but apparently there is enough hype to justify the ability to pre order before the movie even releases in theatres.
